Emily Post once said that considering the rights and feelings of others is the “very foundation upon which social life is built.” Masks are worn to protect our health and that of others, yet, not everyone adheres to this request made by the U.S. Surgeon General.
Why not use etiquette to change behavior? Instead of shaming those who don’t practice health safety, set an example. Be a role model and show that wearing a mask is expected. Say “thanks” to people when you see them wearing a mask and social distancing. Simply walk away and keep your distance from those who aren’t. Actions DO speak louder than words.
Making people feel good about wearing a mask encourages them to continue the practice and influence others. Sending your message by wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, and being kind to each other is today’s proper etiquette!
